Days 2 and 3

Day 2 was a blast around 40 miles along side the skagit river. We took it easy and two of the guys had lunch in a nice restaurant in a tiny town. I had an elk burger and a oregon beer.

On the way toward Newhaven I got a pic of my bike with treebeard.

Newhaven is a cute little town with lots of info about the Seattle City Lights hydropower project. The park has a restored steam locomotive that all the little kids had to ring when they found that the cyclists were getting too close to falling asleep in the lush grass under the trees. Leaving Newhaven the big climbs began. The last nine miles must have taken close to 3 hours and it was getting hot. Making it to the camp ground at Diablo Lake was a blessing. Our neighboring campers let us put 3 of our tents up on their site.

Day 3

This morning our camping angels offered to shuttle our gear up to the top on Mt Washington. They did and this made the 32 mile climb much more bearable, it still took us 7 hours to make the summit. Along the way the scenery was spectacular but the clouds were building and about 2 miles from the summit we suffered through a rain shower and pea sized hail.

We snatched up our gear and headed down a 13 mile descent past our campground and into the lodge at the town of mazama. Hot shower, clean laundry and BBQ for all; even WiFi yea.

  1. How many songs can you belt out while riding a 13 mile descent?

  2. OMG it is so beautiful. Seven hours, uphill...wow. Tree beard is cool : - ) So did you burn 4,000 calories going up the mountain?
Sounds like you're having a great time.

  3. Yea, how are the songs coming along? Does anyone appreciate Morrisey?
Or are you sticking to whistling?

    Great pics.
