Camp
Today, July 2, Sylvia, from Tulsa and familiar with all who ride Freewheel, arrived to in Williston to join the ride. She got to town around 2pm and came straight to the hotel to meet us. After grabbing a bite to eat she went to the bike shop to pick up her steed. A Terry touring bike with 26” wheels and pink fenders. Sylvia snapped on her rear panniers then Kevin, Diane she and I said goodbye to the Bill, Rick and Susan and headed out of town on a 25 mile ride to Lund’s Landing on Lake Sakakawea. It was a trying and route. Narrow shoulders with lots of traffic and all everyone seemed to be pulling a boat or a travel trailer for the July 4th weekend. The hills were outrageous too, several over a mile long with 6-8% grades one was lined by a fence whose post were covered with boots. Finding Lund’s Landing around 6pm was nice. A beautiful spot on the third largest Army Corps of Engineers lake in America behind Lake Mead and Lake Powell. We all ate walleye for dinner. At dinner we met a guy named Jeff who was riding a recumbent westbound. He was 20 some-odd days out of St. Louis. He said we were the first cyclists he met and that he had become accustomed to talking to cattle while cycling in his solitude. After dinner from the dock we saw a muskrat swimming.
Oh yeah, at Lund’s Landing the camping is free but to use the shower will cost you $12 each.
Yea! Sylvia is there!
ReplyDeleteCycling in solitude westbound would be a true mental challenge. What is he trying to prove? The boot fence alone for a mile would push me into crazy-land.
Love the wildlife inventory (muskrat)! Thanks for the Sylvia pics in the blog.
