We headed out past several coal fired power plants on the way to Washburn. We shot photos on a rock at a scenic vista and pond. Then I cruised ahead of the group to scope out Washburn and blog. We at lunch at the Lewis & Clark CafĂ© and then I stayed behind for about an hour blogging then took off to try and reel in the group before they reached Bismarck. This stretch of 1804 was beautiful and I enjoyed cruising at my own pace in my own thoughts for a couple hours. I spotted the group on top of a hill about a mile away waving their BOB flags at me trying to see if they could get my attention. We had a short break to discuss photo ops of the last 40 miles. Near the junction with Riverside we saw several turkeys cross the road then scared up a doe and fawn. Once in town we called for directions to the bike shop. We were told it was 2 miles away, yada, yada. So we headed up the steepest hill around as instructed. 45 minutes later and after checking with directions on the Iphone we called again and were told we were still 2 miles from the store…did I mention it was hot…Finally we spotted the Epic Sports bike store. Right across the parking lot was a Hampton Inn, Sylvia got us the biggest room they had; big enough for 2 roll away beds and we split the cost 4 ways. The room was great and we feasted at Red Lobster trying to recover our wits.
