The Stone House. Our home for two nights.

We are in the heart of the Adirondacks. Lots of climbing some with very steep sections and grades of at least 10% (I was going 2.8mph up one). But the rewards are worth it, numerous lakes, beautiful views, and good roads. As we headed into the town of Newcomb we asked a woman if there was anyplace to get some Gatorade and snacks in town. She said there was an old grocery, Bissell’s Store, that has everything. She commented that the owner is a penny pincher and mentioned that she can remember when she was five years old that he put a skeleton in an upstairs window as a Halloween decoration. She is sixty-one now and it’s still there. The store did have just about one of anything you’d want from 2006 Consumer Reports Buyers Guide to bicycle tires. Shortly after we left Newcomb we missed a turn and headed off route about 10 miles. We didn’t realize it till Kevin mentioned we were in a town that didn’t appear on his map (at the bottom of a long hill that I had done over 46mph coming down). It was cool though Kamla had a state map so we just used it to plot a route to Schroon Lake then got back on route at Severance. With such beautiful roads even getting sidetracked and riding an extra ten miles is a treat. The only argument to be heard is considering by how just big a margin is this summer the best summer ever.
